What is the difference between Inconel and Incoloy?

What is Inconel?
Inconel is a nickel-chromium alloy developed by Wiggin Alloys in the 1940s. It is known for its resistance to corrosion, oxidation and carburization. It also has excellent mechanical properties at high temperatures, making it ideal for applications in extreme conditions such as aerospace components, nuclear reactors and heat exchangers. Inconel is available in several different grades, including  Inconel 600,  Inconel 601,  Inconel 625,  Inconel 718,  Incoloy 800H, Inconel HT,  Inconel 825,  Incoloy 925 and  Inconel 945.

What is Incoloy ?
Incoloy is another nickel-iron-chromium alloy developed by International Nickel Corporation (INCO) in the 1950s. Due to its high chromium content, it has excellent corrosion resistance compared to other alloys. Incoloy also has good creep strength at high temperatures, making it ideal for applications such as power plant equipment, petrochemical processing equipment and gas turbines. The most common grades of Incoloy are Incoloy 800H/HT, Incoloy 825 and Incoloy 903Nb, Incoloy 907Nb.

Difference Between Inconel and Incoloy
The main difference between the two alloys is their composition: Inconel contains more nickel than Incoloy, while Incoloy contains more iron than Inconel. This means that Inconel is more resistant to corrosion, while Incoloy provides superior creep strength at higher temperatures. Additionally, while both alloys have good weldability, they should not be welded together because their different compositions may cause cracks or other problems during the welding process.

in conclusion:
While Inconel and Incoloy share many similarities (such as their excellent corrosion resistance), there are some key differences between them that must be considered when selecting an alloy for an application. For example, if your application requires maximum corrosion resistance, choose Inconel; however, if your application requires superior creep strength, choose Incoloy. Understanding the differences between these two alloys can help you make the best decision for your application needs!
