INCOLOY Alloy MA956 is a high temperature alloy originally developed to meet the needs of the aerospace industry. Now, it has been widely used in various industrial fields, including hearth drums, radiant tubes, furnace muffle furnaces, fluidized bed retort furnaces, heat treatment baskets, mesh belts, heat shields, burner nozzles, thermowell sensors Pipes and diesel engine combustion chamber components, etc. This alloy has excellent high temperature resistance and can withstand temperature exposure up to 1300°C (2400°F) for extended periods of time. Additionally, it offers excellent strength and manufacturability.
The excellent performance of MA956 stems from the mechanical alloying technology used in its manufacturing process. This technology can finely distribute yttrium oxide particles into the highly corrosion-resistant Fe-Cr-Al alloy, thereby improving the properties of the alloy. MA956 has excellent oxidation resistance up to 1300°C (2400°F) and significant creep strength at temperatures up to 1482°C (2700°F). This alloy can also be used in high temperature environments above 1370°C (2500°F).
MA956 is easily machined by all conventional techniques. Its hardness is in the range of HV 250-300 (Rc 25-30) and its work hardening rate is relatively low compared to nickel-based alloys. Although high-speed steel tools can be used, it is often more economical to use carbide tools. Cutting with a grinding saw requires care to avoid thermal shock that could cause cracking; coolant should be used if possible. If electrical discharge machining (EDM) is to be used, the recast surface layer must then be removed by grinding.
INCOLOY alloy MA956 has excellent corrosion resistance. Its high aluminum content allows the formation of a thin, highly adhesive, protective surface layer of aluminum oxide, a process that can occur over a wide range of atmospheric conditions, even at low oxygen levels. This layer is very effective at reducing the rate of further oxidation, and if the protective layer is mechanically damaged, the high aluminum content of the alloy allows new aluminum oxide to form, thus healing the affected area. INCOLOY Alloy MA956 can be used in oxidizing conditions up to 1300°C (2370°F), much higher than traditional nickel-chromium alloys.
In addition to excellent corrosion resistance, INCOLOY alloy MA956 also has other excellent physical properties. It has a melting point of 1480°C (2700°F) and a density of 7.25 g/cm³ (0.262 lb/in³).
In general, INCOLOY alloy MA956 is a high-temperature alloy with excellent performance, high reliability and good high temperature resistance. It has been widely used in various industrial fields and will continue to play an important role in the future.
